Newport Olympic & Sprint Triathlon & Aquabike

Second Beach Middleton Rhode Island
315 Sachuest Point Rd, Middletown, RI 02842
Registration for this event is closed
Event Information

Travel and Leisure Magazine has referred to picturesque  Sachuest Beach (AKA Second Beach) in Middletown as “Newport’s best-loved summer hang-out spot”. After more than a decade of living on Aquidneck Island, we couldn’t agree more.
Our Olympic race begins with a .9 mile swim (.5 mile for the Sprint) in the beautiful open waters of Sachuest Bay. A few steps from the water’s edge, just across the sandy shoreline, you will find the transition area.
The two-loop bike course (single loop for the Sprint) will wind you through bucolic Middletown and Portsmouth, past both farmlands and stunning Sakonnet Riverfront estates.
Finally, the paved two-loop run course (one loop for Sprint) takes you out to the oceanfront Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge area.
Continue on as the route runs alongside the Norman Bird Sanctuary and then bears right through the Third Beach area. The run and concludes back at Second Beach and After you finish, you’ll be met with a spread fit for a hungry triathlete.

About Young Survival Coalition
Now in its 20th year, Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. YSC offers resources, connections, and outreach so women feel supported, empowered and hopeful.

Young Survival Coalition (YSC) was founded in 1998 by three young women who were under the age of 35 when diagnosed. They were discouraged by the lack of resources available and the under-representation of young women in breast cancer research. Today, YSC is the go-to organization for young women facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

USAT Rules

Rules: A Message from the Head Referee:
All competitors please read. It is your responsibility to know the rules!!! Most triathletes come to races with only a rudimentary understanding of the rules of the sport. Indeed, few have ever read through the Competitive Rules in its entirety. In order to minimize misunderstandings on race day, I hope you will take the time to read the following summary of Position Violations, which you probably know as the drafting rules. We have reduced the Position Rules to the following concepts, which everyone can remember:

  • RIDE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR LANE
  • NO DRAFTING! KEEP THREE BIKE LENGTHS BETWEEN YOURSELF AND THE CYCLIST IN FRONT OF YOU
  • PASS ON THE LEFT OF THE CYCLIST IN FRONT, NEVER ON THE RIGHT
  • COMPLETE YOUR PASS WITHIN 15 SECONDS
  • IF PASSED, YOU MUST DROP COMPLETELY OUT OF THE ZONE, TO THE REAR, BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REPASS
  • ALWAYS HAVE YOUR CHINSTRAP FASTENED
  • NO IPODS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE

Remember you are racing in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and there are trained referees on the course to ensure fairness in the competition. There will be no warnings if you commit a foul during competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties. We hope you have a great race, lots of fun, and achieve all of your goals.
