The most unique one day cycling event in the country
Dear Hardmen and Hardwomen:
You are hereby invited to the Country's Most Unique Cycling Event, the fifth annual Belgian Waffle Ride presented by SPY—and Belgian Wafer Ride—to be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Lost Abbey Brewery in San Marcos, CA.
The Belgian Waffle Ride began as an homage to the storied history of bike racing in Belgium—a place long considered to be the epicenter of international professional cycling. A tribute to the beautiful—and equally grueling—rides staged in early spring, this year’s route will venture where past rides have gone, but take riders through different gravel, dirt, and rocky sections—with more climbing than rural Belgium could offer—promising more fun, more pain and more opportunity for excuses than ever before. Yes, there is dirt, gravel, sand, water crossings, hills, wind and pain. Just the way we like it.
Featuring numerous challenging sections similar and different to those of the first four years, some people may be more comfortable on a cyclo-cross bike, mountain bike or on the sidelines. We can promise over 14 dirt sections, more than 11,000 feet of climbing and headwinds no matter which direction you ride. Additionally, we will continue to offer a shorter yet difficult route in the form of our Belgian Wafer Ride.
Once again, we are proud to partner with the Challenged Athletes Foundation as the official charity of the BWR. Certain registration fees will go directly to them as well as all the funds raised via our BWR event Haku application. You can learn more about CAF at www.challengedathletes.org.
All purchased merchandise will be available on-site for pickup at the BWR Expo on Saturday, April 23 at the Lost Abbey in San Marcos. The two-day expo will feature a splendid collection of cycling companies and local vendors, in addition culinary delights from Gear Grinder Grill and libations from the Lost Abbey.
Please note, there will be a $20.00 late check-in fee if you choose to pick up your event packet on Sunday morning. If you need to pick up your registration packet and number on Sunday, please add "Sunday Packet Pickup" to your cart in the product section below.
To vie for glory as a BWR category winner and to prove you completed this grueling course, please create a Strava account prior to the event and join our BWR club on Strava.
The event will start at 7:00 am,. The Wafer ride will start at 8:00am.
For media inquiries and more information about exhibiting at the two-day BWR Expo, advertising in the BWR program, or volunteering at this year's event, please email mmx@creativedisruption.info.
