History
Ride 4 Orphans was started in 2013 to raise funds to support orphan projects in Chad, Malawi, Haiti and local foster care organizations via 4KIDS of South Florida and Place of Hope at the Leighan and David Rinker Campus.
To date, over 2,190 riders have participated.
Impact
In its first year, R4O raised $23,000, which was divided equally between the following:
- Pothawira Village, Salima Malawi - Reliable power for orphan village
- Village Altonodji, Moundou, Chad - Solar power for orphan village
- Fayeton Orphanage, Gonaives, Haiti - Solar power for orphanage campus
- 4KIDs of South Florida - Foster care programs for modern-day orphans (abused and neglected children)
The second ride in 2014 brought together more cyclists and volunteers and increased the raised funds by over 50% with Place of Hope at the Leighan and David Rinker Campus as the local charity. The money raised has increased each year so that in 2017 over $55,000 was raised for children in need locally and abroad.
In 2018 we are expecting over 550 riders and are excited to raise funds for orphan projects in Chad, Malawi, Haiti, India and local foster care via 4KIDs of South Florida and Place of Hope at the Leighan and David Rinker Campus.
