About
This is Cape Cod’s longest-running triathlon — and one of the oldest races in the world. There's hardly a triathlete in New England who hasn't been to picturesque Craigville Beach to start, or end, a season. This race offers both Sprint and Olympic distances as well as Aquabike, Duathlon and Aquathon options.
Sprint Distance Course Description

Swim: 1/4 mile

A modified time trial start at Craigville Beach (expect temps mid-70s). The course is rectangular in shape (approx 150 yards between the two turns). Wave conditions over the years have ranged from glass-calm to a moderate chop.

Bike: 10.2 miles

The “rolling hills” course is a shade over 10 miles: first entering the historic village of Centerville, then winding out to the villages of Osterville and Wianno before returning along a beachside road to Craigville Beach. Single loop; and no duplication of any stretch of road!

Run: 3.6 miles

The athletes head off toward Hyannisport, with a quarter-mile flat run evolving into a gradual climb for a quarter-mile, then a gentle rolling grade until the last mile which is a gentle downhill grade. Two water stops are staffed by enthusiastic volunteers of the 3.6-mile run.

Olympic Distance Course Description

Swim: 0.9 mile

A modified time trial start at Craigville Beach (expect temps in the upper 60s). A two loop course extending beyond the Sprint course buoys in a rectangular shape.

Bike: 20 miles

The Olympic distance bicycle route will mirror the Sprint course with the exception of an additional loop starting in the village of Centerville and extending into Osterville.

Run: 6.2 miles

The Olympic distance run route will mirror the Sprint course with the exception of an additional loop.

Aquabike - Aquathlon - Duathlon

Aquabike (Swim/Bike)

Available for Sprint and Olympic distances

Your race is complete once your bike courses the timing mat. Cross the finish line for pictures and finisher bottle at your leisure.

Aquathlon (Swim/Run)

Available for Olympic distance only

Transition from swim to the run course without that pesky bike.

Duathlon (Run/Bike/Run)

Available for Sprint distance only

Not a swimmer? No problem! Run to the first water stop and back to the transition area where you will continue racing with triathlon participants.

Tri It Your Way (Virtual Category)

Can't make it in person? No Problem!

Here's how Tri It Your Way works:

1) Pick your triathlon activities! Remember, you can either swim the 400 yards (or 1500 yards for the Olympic distance) or choose another activity to do for 10 minutes (20 minutes if competing in Olympic distance). The bike needs to be at least 10 miles (20 for Olympic) and the run needs to be at least a 5K (10k for Olympic) - and yes, you may go over, but not under!

2) SAFETY FIRST! Make sure you are taking all the safety precautions when swimming, biking, and running. This means not swimming alone and following all the rules of the road (or trail). Just like all the precautions you take when training or racing an event, we want you to be safe.

3) Record each activity with your watch, or phone, or bike computer.

4) Document your tri! Whether it’s someone taking pictures of you “racing” or stopping for a selfie mid-run, we want to see you in action! Dogs, kids, partners, friends are encouraged to join in with you!

5) Email your pics and race data to info@neeevents.com.

“Tri It Your Way” runs from  August 29 - September 14, 2025

Relay Teams

Yes--your choice: 2-person or 3-person team! The captain should register, then go to 'manage team' to customize the name of the team and then invite who they want on their team.  Each member of the team must register and have a USAT membership (1-day or annual).

USAT Sanctioned

This is a USAT Sanctioned race! That means that we meet or exceed strict guidelines set by USA Triathlon. This benefits the athlete by providing additional insurance coverage in case of injury.

You are required to have either an annual or 1-day (Bronze) USA Triathlon membership in order to race in any USAT-sanctioned event. Non-USAT members will be required to purchase a one-day event insurance license from USA Triathlon. Costs: $13/sprint, $18/olympic, $6 per relay team member, $10 for youth. For more information about USAT memberships please click here.

Results will count toward national and regional rankings. All USAT rules and regulations will apply. Racers are subject to time penalties or disqualification for infractions of USAT rules included a positive drug test.

You will be given an opportunity to purchase a USAT membership during the registration process, or using the grey 'Add' button at the bottom of your registration email.

Lobster Pot Challenge Team Challenge

Clubs with six or more athletes racing in the Sprint or Olympic Triathlon, Duathlon or the Aquabike categories will be entered into the Lobster Pot Challenge!  The winning team brings home the Lobster Pot Trophy, plus wins free entries to future races and cool swag.  Athletes race as individuals and are still eligible for overall & age group awards--just make sure to enter your Club/Team name when prompted during registration.  Adult and collegiate/youth divisions - all teams are eligible. Click HERE for more information.

Volunteers

We always need volunteers! Friends and family members of athletes are encouraged to volunteer while watching the action. Priority parking, T-shirt, refreshments and swag bag are only some of the perks!  Register online or email info@neeevents.com for more information.

Water Conditions

Race director does reserve the right to substitute a beach run for the swim if water temperature is below 65 degrees, water quality tests indicate any health hazard, or if surf conditions are extremely rough.

Packet pick-up and Late registration

Packet pick-up and late registration (until sold out) will be 5:00 - 7:00pm Friday evening at the race site, and 5:30-6:30am Saturday at race site. All participants MUST BRING a photo ID and proof of USAT purchase (physical card, digital card, receipt, email confirmation).

You will NOT be able to pick up packets for others! All Relay Team members must be present to pickup their race packet.

Timing

Chip timed.  Race results are expected to be posted to NEEevents.com within 24 hours.

Awards

Awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 10:00am day of race. Awards presented to top three competitors overall and in each age group (male, female and non-binary) as well as top Elites, Clydesdale/Athena, First-Timers, Para-triathlete, Male, Female and Co-Ed Relay Teams, and overall top competitors for Duathlon, Aquathlon and Aquabike categories. Those who cannot remain for the ceremony may pickup their award at the Awards table or by contacting us for shipping instructions. Results will be posted on our website within 24 hours of event.

Travel

For those traveling from afar, Cape Cod is awash with hotels, motor lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, vacation cottages and AirBnB offerings.

No Dogs!

We all love our pets. But town regulations forbid dogs on or near the beach this time of the year. Leave the pooch at home!

Parking

Available at two parking lots: one adjacent to the beach; one across the road from the beach (park in the lot across the street if you want to leave before the Olympic distance athletes have finished their race). A short walk from both!

Transfer/Refund Policy

Transfers: Private transfers can be processed through your athlete account for a $25 fee. Please contact us for transfers during race week.

Refunds: There will be no refunds unless you purchase Refund Protect during the registration process.
