Event Information
Many believe bike advocacy is limited to cities. But increasingly suburban and rural communities have been the scenes of hostility, aggression and even violence between bicyclists and motorists. The group ride, when poorly led, is often the source of road rage, questionable enforcement, angry media comments and even public policy against bikes. Most of these situations can be avoided with some simple group ride leadership techniques developed and honed by European clubs. Attend this talk led by Richard Fries, Executive Director, MassBike, and learn how effective these techniques can be.
About Richard Fries
Richard Fries has been riding bikes since the 1970s. He raced at the pro level in Europe. But Fries is also passionate about touring, commuting and especially advocacy. Trained as a journalist, he has worked as a race announcer for 25 years, including serving as the UCI's English announcer at the World Championships for the past eight years. In 2015 he was named the executive director of MassBike, the statewide bicycle advocacy organization.
