Event Information
Part of the RACE-MANIA Summit & Expo, the MMRF Team for Cures Team Challenge is a competition designed for teams/clubs looking for their first team event of the season.
Overview
The Team Challenge is comprised of three events: the 4 x 1600 Running Relay, the FastSplits Indoor Bike Time Trial (TT) and the Relay Team Swim Challenge. Register your team for the Team Challenge and you'll be entering a team of 4 into each of these competitive events.
Team Requirements and Your Team Captain
The Team Captain registers the team and a team will consist of 4 to 12 members (the timing of heats in some competitions overlap; those teams will need a minimum of 8 team members). RACE-MANIA Event Management will contact the Team Captain after the team is registered and will provide a template for the Team Captain to complete with the names of team members and the events in which they will compete. Team Captains are not required to know the names of all participating team members when registering, but will need to submit a final roster by Friday, March 10, 2017. All participating team members will be required to sign a liability waiver for the events they are participating when they check in on the day of the event.
About the Competitions in the Team Challenge
  1. The 4 x 1600m Running Relay: This is a 4 x 1600m relay race that will take place on the super-fast INDOOR 200 meter track (complete with banked turns!) at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center which is located about 0.4 mile from BU's Fit Rec Center, the site of all other RACE-MANIA events and activities. Each member of the 4-person team will run 1600m on the track in traditional relay team fashion... Athlete 1 runs 1600m and then hands the baton to Athlete 2 who runs 1600m and so forth. There will be two 10-team heats -- at 9:00am and 9:45am -- and teams select their heat when registering for the overall Team Challenge.  Your team must include at least 1 female
  2. FastSplits Indoor Bike Time Trial (TT): The TT has each member of a 4-person team hook their bike to a CompuTrainer and ride a 10k course. CompuTrainers simulate the feel of the road with varying degrees of road resistance just like the real thing! Each team member must complete the 10k and the combined time of all 4 members forms the TT Team Time. TT heats are offered throughout the day and you select your TT heat when registering. The TT takes place on the RACE-MANIA expo floor inside BU's Fit Rec Center. Your team must include at least 1 female
  3. Relay Team Swim Challenge: The Swim Challenge is a 800 yard relay swim event that requires each member of a 4-person team to swim 200m yards. The combined time of each member will be the Team Time. The Swim Challenge takes place in the world-class competition pool inside BU's Fit Rec Center. There will be two heat times (12:00pm and 12:30pm). Your team must include at least 1 female.

IMPORTANT: SELECT YOUR RACE CATEGORY CAREFULLY!
Your race category indicates the scheduled start times for your team in the swim, bike and run competitions that make up the Team Challenge. Because some category configurations require that a team competes in two different events at the same time (e.g. the 9:00am Relay Run heat AND the 9:00am Time Trial heat) or at scheduled start times that are very close together (e.g. the 11:45am Time Trial and the 12:30pm Swim Challenge) some race category options will require that you have at least 8 team members -- 4 unique individuals for one event and 4 different individuals to compete in a different event. The minimum number of team members required for each race category option has been noted.
Determining a Winner
The times of each individual member in an event is combined to form a Team Time. The Team Time from all three individual events will then be combined to form an Overall Team Time... the team with the fastest Overall Team Time will be crowned the Team Challenge Champion!
Awards and Prizes
Teams will have a Team Time for the swim, the TT and the run based on the performance of each team member in each of these 3 competitions. The Team Time from each competition will then be added up to determine an Overall Team Time. The fastest 3 teams based on Overal Team Times will be awarded prizes (to be announced).
